Le projet Kalaweit a été créé en 1999 pour venir en aide aux gibbons captifs d'Indonésie. L'objectif est de rendre ces gibbons à la vie sauvage après un travail nécessaire de réhabilitation. Ceci se fait à travers une approche globale, avec protection de l'environnement de ces gibbons (création d'une réserve de la vie sauvage, lutte contre la déforestation) et l'intégration des populations locales à tous les niveaux du projet. Kalaweit gère deux centres (Bornéo et Sumatra), réhabilite actuellement 300 gibbons et siamangs, emploie 50 personnes, vétérinaires et employés. Kalaweit permet le parrainage de nos gibbons et siamangs. Kalaweit reçoit des stagiaires dans le cadre de stages de découvertes. Kalaweit project was created in 1999 to help and rescue the captive gibbons in Indonesia. The objective is to give back these gibbons to the wildlife after a necessary rehabilitation work. This is done through a comprehensive approach, with a protection of the environment of these gibbons (creation of wildlife reserves, struggle against deforestation) and the integration of the local populations at all levels of the project. Kalaweit manages two centres (Borneo and Sumatra), currently rehabilitates 300 Gibbons and Siamangs, and employs 50 people, veterinarians and employees.
